Tanukidanisan Fudoin Temple

Kiyomizudera is a popular sightseeing spot in Kyoto competing for the rank of one or two in terms of popularity.
Kiyomizu Temple's biggest feature is its impressive protruding stage, yet in Kyoto there is another temple with a stage that is just as impressive as the stage of Kiyomizudera.
This time, I would like to introduce Tanukidanisan Fudoin Temple which is familiarly known by the nickname "Tanuki-dani no Ofudosan (the temple in the raccoon valley)" by local people.

Raccoon pottery

When arriving at the entrance, as the name suggests, a countless number of raccoon pottery will welcome you.
It makes one feel excited as if they stepped into a village of raccoons.
Raccoon pottery is hiding in the stone steps leading up to the main hall.
"Tanuki" (Japanese raccoon) has the meaning of "pulling out others", so for those who are doing sports, souvenirs of raccoons are recommended.

Kiyomizu Temple, stage

Because the main hall is built in the same style "Kengai-dukuri" as Kiyomizudera, the power of the stage is outstanding.
From the stage you can see Kyoto and the view will blow you away.
Additionally, the solemn Buddhist sutra and the soulful sound of the drum echoing in the hall reverberates to the core of your body.

Amulet

Tanukidanisan Fudoin Temple has been popular as a temple praying for traffic safety.
Many of the local cars have amulets from the temple.
The amulet is very popular in Japan and it is also wonderful as a souvenir.
