As you know, sushi is the uniquely Japanese food loved universally but there is actually one unknown to the world and which is loved only by the Japanese - mackerel sushi.
As its name suggests, mackerel sushi has mackerel on top of rice.
Mackerel is one of the most world-wide consumed fish from Pacific Ocean but it was very difficult to keep the fish fresh in the pastas people couldn't keep its freshness whilst they transported it from a harbour to the city.
In order to deliver the fish to Kyoto, people put salt on mackerels at the harbour in Fukuoka prefecture and made them into sushi.
Since then the mackerel sushi became popular and now it's a famous and traditional Kyoto food that people love to eat for special occasions such as ceremonies.
The grilled mackerel sushi was burn as a result of seeking more tasty sushi.
To grill sushi rids the fish of its smell and adds a good flavour which is why the grilled sushi gets very popular for children and foreign people. Many people ask for seconds.
Manzara Honten is famous for the delicious grilled mackerel sushi.
