There is a mysterious vending machine near Fushimi Inari Shrine in Fushimiku, Kyoto.
In the colorful cans, there are Kyoto and Japanese themed goods.
I found a strange looking vending machine with pictures of Kabuki or Maiko on it. It stands out from the others and looks as though it is somehow related to Kyoto.
On the bottom row, there are even Kyoto green teas, rice and soy sauce!
I bought a can with a picture of a Kabuki man and it was just ￥1000. The picture is printed on a piece of Japanese paper. I feel like the can itself can also be used as an ornament.
Inside, there was a hand-towel of Ukiyoe (Japanese woodblock prints) by Utamaro Kitagawa and Kyoto's towns cape, a key-chain with Japanese designs and marbles.
The hand-towel had a pretty, soft touch.
These vending machines made it easy for me to buy souvenir even after the shops are all closed. Even a can became a great souvenir!
There are going to be twenty more of these vending machines all over Kyoto by end of the year! Try it out if you find the vending machine.
